A message from the DEVE
Welcome to ENS!
First, let’s introduce the DEVE (Direction des études et de la vie étudiante): we are the two deans of studies and student life – Dorothée Butigieg for Humanities and Clotilde Policar for Science. We will be very happy to welcome you at ENS in September.
We will do our best to ensure your arrival in Paris and at ENS is as smooth and pleasant as possible. To help you with everything you need to do before and when you arrive, you will get help from the staff of CoST (the student registry of ENS, which also includes the admissions office and the graduate studies office) and the Welcome Desk of PSL, the university to which the ENS belongs.
You may be worried about your French, which is perhaps not as good as you would like it to be. But you shouldn’t : ECLA (the language department of ENS) offers both an intensive training session in September that will be taught remotely, and weekly classes in different levels throughout the year.
We know some of you will not get their visa on time or be able to travel to France to make it to orientation. You shouldn’t worry about that either: we will offer you a specific programme to help you explore the ENS, its departements, courses, and campus life.
Please make sure to give this document a read: it includes everything you need to know and do in order to land safely at ENS-PSL. And if you still have questions, check our Frequently Asked Question about orientation.
Wherever you are – welcome to ENS !
Dorothée Butigieg & Clotilde Policar
Deans of Studies and Student Life
Save the date
From 2:00 to 4:00pm, ENS staff will give you an overview of what ENS offers and how it works, as well as information and advice about paperwork and health care, campus life and French classes.
This website, rentree2020.ens.psl.eu, gathers various information about the history and traditions of the school, the student’s union and the programme of orientation.
The registration process for all the conferences and events of the two orientation weeks will be held on a separate website: on August 26th you will receive an email asking you to sign in on the platform (called Evenium) through a special event code.
On this website, you will find a schedule of all the conferences, visits and other events. You will be able to filter them depending on your interests. Alongside all the presentations and conferences organized by the departments, you will also find the events offered by the Comité d’Organisation des Fêtes (aka COF, the students’ union).
Once you have signed in, you can view in the “Planning” section all the events you have registered for at a glance, check their venue or find the links to access videoconferences. In the “Invités” section, you may see all the other students taking part in the orientation and chat with them if you wish to.
